Heads South hits the road early in 2016 with a string of dates in January and February. We’ll be on tour in the Midlands and the South West with further dates in the south east. Dates include a return to St Austell Jazz in Cornwall where we played to a sell-out crowd in January 2015 and our debut in Exeter where we'll be at the Barnfield Theatre, and at Arts Reach venues in Winterborne Stickland and Studland in Dorset (see below). We'll also be holding workshops for music students at colleges in Cornwall and Exeter. We'll be back at the Crypt at St Martin in the Fields in London in February, Steve Waterman Trumpet, John Harriman piano, organ, bandleader, Venezuelan bassplayer Adolfredo Pulido, Cuban percussionist Chino Martell Morgan congas, bongos, cajon, guiro, darbuka, Buster Birch drumkit, timbale, castanets, frame drum. TOUR UPDATE

Sunday November 3: we leave Caernarfon today and go to Holyhead for the last night of the Tour. It's been great venues, great people, beautiful countryside and hugely talented Royal Welsh Music College students playing as support in the foyers. The concert at the Dora Stoutzker Hall at the Royal College of Music was a particularly special night in a really beautiful venue (photo added to gallery), the warm crowd threatening never to let us leave, demanding to know when we'd be back, and ending with a rousing standing ovation. All of the audiences have been very enthusiastic and again last night here in Caernarfon people jumping up on their feet to show it , and afterwards at an Indian restaurant young people at another table came over to us to say they had been talking about us when we entered the restaurant, they had been at the gig and they loved it. The opening gig of the tour at Brecon showed that this pretty town is a very quiet place when not hosting its flagship Jazz Festival in mid-summer, but despite a problematic sound set up at the venue it was a most enjoyable evening - see live review

HEADS SOUTH WINS TOURING AWARD !

Heads South has won the UK Jazz Services Rural Touring Scheme 2014 award. The independent Judging Panel "all really loved the music". The Scheme, currently touring last year winners Chrisine Tobin and Michael Janisch, has been going for two years and is designed to foster touring in less well served parts of the country working with the National Rural Touring Forum. We were selected along with 2 other bands (many congrats to them!) out of numerous submissions from extremely worthy artists.

Yes its true. In May we were asked by AEG the owner of the O2 to play for Rod's exclusive after-show party there for his A-list guests following his concert. And so we did. And that went so well that in July another call came through: 'Rod wants you back' , again at the O2 to play after his show, but sadly some of us were on the beach so we couldn't...
